Does it reflect the inbreaking kingdom of Christ?

Recently I read “Trouble I’ve Seen,” by Drew Hart. It’s a great book and I highly recommend it. It fed my soul. It is about race and the Kingdom of God and what it means to follow Jesus. And that short description doesn’t do it justice.

One of the questions that he raises in his book is this – “Does the law reflect the inbreaking kingdom of Christ?” (pg. 149).

I’d like to expand that question, because I think it relates to what is happening in DC today.

I would alter the question to read – Does your action today reflect the inbreaking kingdom of Christ?

To members of the US Senate and US House of Representatives – does your action today reflect the inbreaking kingdom of Christ, or some other inbreaking kingdom?

To constituents, citizens, residents, and others in this land – does your action and reaction today to the events taking place in the US Capitol reflect the inbreaking kingdom of Christ?

To Christians in this land – does your action and reaction, your words, your postings, you interaction with those you deem as your enemy reflect the inbreaking kingdom of Christ?

To pastors in this land – does your action and reaction, and especially the words you offer, and the prayers you say this day reflect the inbreaking kingdom of Christ?

To those gathered outside of the Capitol to protest the actions going on inside the Capitol building – does your actions, reactions, and words reflect the inbreaking kingdom of Christ?

To those officers of the peace who are tasked with the difficult job of maintaining order and peace in the midst of high tension and stress – does your actions and reactions reflect the inbreaking kingdom of Christ?

To the media who cover the events that take place in the Capitol – does your actions and reactions, your words and analysis reflect the inbreaking kingdom of Christ?

To those in the Executive branch of the US government, including the President and those closest to him – does your actions and reaction, your words and directions reflect the inbreaking kingdom of Christ?

This is really the only question that matters today. We can’t control what other will do or say. We can only ask the question and then look to ourselves to live in a way that reflects the inbreaking kingdom of Christ. And we can invite others into actions and words that reflect it too. I invite you today especially to reflect the inbreaking kingdom of Christ in your words, postings, and actions with all people. And I pray for this nation.
