Prayer for February 12, 2021: Please pray with me. Holy God, you come to us over and over again in so many ways, you are present again today. The age old battle between two opposing ideas is on display – that the ends justify the means and that the means are as important as the ends. You reject the idea that the ends justify the means. You always have. You offer a different way. Actually that’s not quite accurate. Your ways is the normal way, the way that first existed. Those who have proclaimed that the ends justify the means have been offering their alternative. It is a twisted ideas that always ends in disaster. So why does it appeal to so many? Are we short sighted? Do we think that our intentions are purer and so we can use an unholy belief and not be impacted and changed by it? Who do we think we are? No, to follow you means to reject the idea that the ends justify the means – always and every time. The very rejection of this belief system is what it means to live into the belief that the means are as important as the ends. Amen.
