Prayer for June 4, 2021

Prayer for June 4, 2021: Please pray with me. God all powerful, hear my prayer. We hear the word powerful and I wonder – what do we make of that? Do we twist it? Do we try to remake you in our image so that we think that you would do what we would do with that kind of power? How else to explain humanity’s thirst for power and how humanity has used power in deadly and destructive ways all while using it in your name? Forgive us Lord. We don’t have the faintest idea of your power or how to appropriately use it. Yet you are an empowering God – full of eternal hope. You are a God who empowers the powerless, not so they can exact revenge, but to lift people up to the fullness of what you created them to be. You are a God who empowers the oppressed so that they can break the cycles of abuse and violence, not continue them. You are an empowering God. Thank you. Amen.
