Prayer for October 8, 2020

Prayer for October 8, 2020: Please pray with me. God of justice, how do we pray for enemies? We are told to pray for our enemies, but what does that sound like? What do we say? Psalm 109 tells us how evildoers often end up ensnared in the very traps that they lay for others. The Psalmist desires suffering for the wicked. We hear other passages of Scripture, like Luke 6:28 that tell us to “bless those who curse us, pray for those who abuse you.” So what do we do? Romans 8:26 tells us, “For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.” Lord, we don’t know what to pray. We don’t even know what words to use or if there are words. All we can do is lift our enemies up to you. They are in your hands. Let your justice roll so that all may be brought back into communion and community with you and with others. Amen.
